Yes. Naturopathic medicine, as a system, is safe. However, just like any medical approach, it can have side effects and may interact with other medications you are taking.
That is why Dr. Ellen will always get a detailed health history from you, including your allergies (or sensitivities) as well as any medication you may be taking, to make sure that you are getting the safest care she can offer.
Practicing Naturopathic Medicine is a bit like being able to pull different tools from a large tool kit, depending on what you need.
As part of this tool kit, Dr. Ellen might suggest: dietary and lifestyle changes, natural health products (supplements) and/or herbs. For in-person visits, Dr. Ellen may also suggest acupuncture, if appropriate.
Great question! Sometimes consuming sugar, gluten or other foods can trigger or aggravate some of the symptoms you are feeling. If that is the case, removing them may improve how you feel.
Rest assured, Dr. Ellen understands that making changes to your food habits can feel difficult and challenging. She also understands that there is happiness in comfort food and joy in sharing meals. So if dietary changes need to be made, she will support you in doing so.
This depends on how long and how intensely you’ve been experiencing your symptoms. Transformation won’t happen overnight. However, once you implement the care plan Dr. Ellen has put together for you, you should start seeing shifts in how you feel.

Dr. Ellen offers virtual visits to residents of Ontario, Canada via a PHIPA (Personal Health Information Protection Act) compliant platform. She recommends that you access this platform via a secure, confidential and stable internet connection.
If necessary, Dr. Ellen will also offer visits through phone.
Many extended health benefits will cover parts of naturopathic medicine. Enquiring with your benefits provider is the best way to know what is covered and what isn’t.
